Cantiana Music

...is the umbrella name for the various musical endeavours of Lis Bayford.

Lis was fortunate to be raised in a family where the love of music was shared on a daily basis.

Her musical experiences have led her to the conviction that everyone is born with the disposition to be musical; indeed that musicality is a fundamental part of being human which needs to be nurtured and encouraged at every level and stage of life.

Following her music degree at Kingston, Lis worked first for South East Arts Association enabling the funding of musical organisations based in the South East. After a teaching degree at Cambridge, she then went on to teach in primary schools in London and Swale before raising her own family.

Lis especially enjoyed communicating the joy of music through running children's choirs and orchestras. She established Cantiana Choir for adults in 2001, initially to provide a flexible worship group to serve the 5 parishes in the Doddington benefice. The choir now draws its members from rural and urban Swale - some have music-reading ability, many are learning; but all enjoy singing together and can testify to singing's therapeutic value. The choir regularly gives popular fund-raising concerts in the area.

Lis has taught piano privately for a number of years and enjoys encouraging children in their discovery of the piano sound and encouraging adults that you're never to late to learn!

Lis established a Kindermusik programme at Cantiana Music when she recognised the need for classes offering high quality musical experiences for young children and their families to foster learning and growth in all areas of development and to instil a lifelong love of music.
